SGC Summer Symposium – 6/14/16 – 6:00PM

SGC bee hotelOur first summer symposium, organized by Barbara Kline, is scheduled on Tuesday,  June 14th  from  6-8pm at the Sunnyvale School Admin Building where our normal meetings are held.   This month, we will be making bee hotels to help with bee conservation.   Be sure to invite any friends, neighbors, relatives who you think might be interested in joining our wonderful garden club  to come and  participate!

If possible, a rough estimate of attendees would be helpful, especially if you are bringing guests. Email Barbara Kline Barbarellak@att.net and  let her know if you will definitely attend and if you are bringing friends. This will ensure that there are materials for everyone.
It’s Pot Luck all the way on the food. Bring your best dish!  Casserole, salad or dessert… Barbara will provide the drinks. Don’t miss the opportunity to join in on the fun and make something  to help the bees!

Program – Curb Appeal – Sell your home faster and be the envy of your neighborhood.

Program Speaker: Brad Sandy – Master Gardeners Speaker Bureau since 2001 – Since 2008 he has been the spring and fall presenter at the Dallas Arboretum.

Hostesses: Kara Ranta (Lead), Kathy Dalby, Nancy Griffin, Joyce Taylor and Barbara Kline.

Installation of Officers for 2016-2017

Activity:

  • Collect money and food for Sharing Life.
  • PAY DUES

9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

at Daniel Steel, 4640 Belt Line Rd. in Sunnyvale

Homemade cookies for sale also!

Proceeds will help pay for SGC’s many landscaping projects.

Includes kitchen items, clothes, bedding, household items,

Christmas trees/decorations, toys, and more!

Sunnyvale Recycling Roundup and Trash-off on April 9

Spring has sprung! It’s time for Spring cleaning and yard prep for the summer. Need to get rid of old, unwanted electronics, appliances and yard waste? Sunnyvale residents are invited to bring them to the annual Recycling Round-up and Trash-off on Saturday, April 9 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m at Jobson Park. Here’s a list of items that will be accepted:

  • Computers & Laptops
  • Networking Equipment
  • Monitors & TVs *
  • Printers & Copiers
  • Phone Systems
  • Cell Phones
  • Wires & Cables
  • UPS Units
  • Appliances of all sizes
  • Audio/Visual Equipment
  • Scrap Metal & Plastic
  • Large brushy items and yard waste

*Flat screen monitors and television will be recycled at no charge. But there will be a charge for older equipment that includes tubes ($5 for CRT monitors and $20 for televisions). Cash, checks and credit cards will be accepted by Verde Tech, which also offers an optional Certified hard drive wipe, at $20 per drive.

Items that cannot be accepted include:

  • Tires
  • Concrete
  • Chemicals of any kind
  • Paint
  • Any pieces of equipment with oil or gas in them
  • Batteries of any kind

Learn about native and imported bees.  Why we need them and how we can keep them.

Happy-New-Year-2016-Fireworks-Videos-in-USAHappy New Year!  Start the year off right by attending the next Sunnyvale Garden Club meeting scheduled on Tuesday, January 12th, 10AM.  The meeting will be held at the Sunnyvale Community Center, 417 E. Tripp Road.

Program – Water-Wise Gardening – Presented by Judy Fender – DCMGA since 2000.

Covers the basics of Water Wise gardening from the planning stages, bed preparation, plant selection, and maintenance.   Following the steps presented will transform a yard to a wonderful outdoor retreat.

REMINDER – SGC Christmas Luncheon/Entertainment – Tues. – 12/08/15 – 10 a.m.

The annual SGC Christmas luncheon and entertainment is scheduled for Tuesday, 12/08/15, immediately following the monthly business meeting at the Sunnyvale Community Center.  Entertainment will be provided by the Sunnyvale Middle School Student Choir.

Tickets for the luncheon must have been purchased by 11/30/15.

Annual Christmas Tour of Homes, Gift and Bake Sale

Sunnyvale Garden Club Presents Two Great Events

Saturday, Dec. 5, 2015

1:00 to 6:00 p.m.

 

Annual Christmas Tour of Homes – $15

Pre-purchase your tickets from a member of Sunnyvale Garden Club or at:

  • the Sunnyvale Library,
  • The Wild Orchid Floral Design and Gift in Sunnyvale or
  • Windsor Florist in Mesquite

Or

Buy your tickets on the day of the event at the Tour Headquarters in the Sunnyvale High School Cafeteria at 222 Collins Rd, Sunnyvale, TX 75182.

Maps will be distributed on the day of the event at the Gift and Bake Sale, located in the Sunnyvale High School Cafeteria. Tickets must be presented for admission to each of the homes.

Free Admission to Holiday Gift Shop and Bake Sale

Do your Christmas shopping in Sunnyvale this year! Local arts and crafts vendors will be set up in the Sunnyvale High School.

The Holiday Gift Shop and Bake Sale will be located Tour Headquarters in the SHS Cafeteria. Community members are welcome to shop at the Gift and Bake Sale even if they don’t take the tour.

The ladies of Sunnyvale Garden Club are outstanding cooks, so come early for the best selection of holiday candies, cookies, breads, pies and cakes. Individual pieces/slices as well as full cakes/pies will be sold.

The Holiday Gift Shop will feature more than 20 vendors selling items that make great holiday gifts. Vendors will include:

Christmas Luncheon Tickets Available Now!

Come join our garden club family as we celebrate this very special time of the year at our annual Christmas Luncheon!  Guests are welcome.

When:   Tuesday, December 8, 2015 – 10:00 a.m.

Where:  Sunnyvale Community Center, 417 East Tripp Road, Sunnyvale, Texas

  • Tickets are $20.00 per person and includes a delicious ham and turkey dinner with all the trimmings provided by Baker’s Rib; homemade salads and desserts.
  • Entertainment will be provided by the Sunnyvale High School Varsity Women’s Choir.
  • Tickets may be purchased at the November 10th meeting.
  • Deadline to purchase tickets is Saturday, November 28th
