The yard of the month for December was at the home of Steve and Carol Tipton. The home is located at 105 Longhorn in the Meadow Lake Division. Their yard showed a lot of creativity.

SGC Annual Christmas Luncheon/Meeting – 12/10/13
Many thanks to the designers of the great tablescapes created by SGC members for our annual Christmas luncheon held at the old SISD cafetorium. Amazing creativity! We had two different design contests. The first was by popular vote. Each attendee was given 3 ballots to cast for their favorite tables. The top three vote getters were:
- Table #4 by Janet Nevil, Tina Rollins & Edie Street
- Table #1 by Rachel Doyle
- Table #3 by Faye Nabors & Jeannette Hobbs
We had four flower show judges who judged the tables according to flower show standards. They selected the following winners:
- Table #4 by Janet Nevil, Tina Rollins & Edie Street;
- Table #7 by Georgeann Moss & Kathy Dalby;
- Table #2 by Faye Nabors & Jeanette Hobbs.
Prizes in both categories were $100 for First Place, $75 for Second Place and $50 for Third Place. It’s a shame that only 3 winners could be selected. All the tables were great – and they contributed greatly to a very festive luncheon.
We also thank the Fine Arts Departments at the Sunnyvale Middle and High Schools for entertaining us. As a small thank you, the Club contributed a $50 iTunes gift card to each group. (They don’t buy sheet music anymore – they download from iTunes!) Of course, we must thank SISD for allowing us to use this space at the old elementary school. We are so blessed to have such a versatile space available to us. We were happy that Doug Williams and Carol Martel could join us for lunch.
Big “thank you”s as well to Gary Nevins, Tami Mayes, Patsy Knight and Joyce McCloud for getting the Olive Garden food ready for us. Thanks to hostesses Rachel Doyle, Sallyann Nevins and Faye Nabors for providing beverages and helping to “set up and take down.”

Special Holiday Recycling Information
I know a number of folks will be having ‘fried turkey’ for the holidays instead of the traditional baked. That leaves us wondering – What do I do with all the used oil/grease now? The city of Dallas has a special ‘Cease the Grease’ program and Mesquite has one of the drop off points located at Eastfield College . It is located in the SE corner of the W2 parking lot which is between building G and L (follow the signs). Put the oil/grease back into the plastic bottle you purchased it in and place it in the ‘Cease the Grease’ cabinet.

JFK Activities Nov. 23th – 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The Sunnyvale Garden Club will participate in JFK Day activities at the Sunnyvale Public Library on Saturday, Nov. 23, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. SGC will be selling 6 ½ in. Poinsettias and baked goods.
Sallyann Nevins, SGC President, needs volunteers to help with the table and to bake homemade cookies, pies, cakes …anything appropriate for a bake sale.
In the event of inclement weather, activities will be moved indoors.

Yard of the Month for November 2013
The Sunnyvale Garden Club yard of the month for October is the home of Marlene and Wolfgang Zimmermann located at 313 Meadow Dr, in Meadowlake. Marlene is the gardener and did most of the yard work in her lovely yard.

- Mesquite Recycles Day is Nov. 9 from 8 – 12 noon at Poteet High School (Mesquite)
- Electronic Waste Collection and Paper Shredding on Nov. 9 from 9 – 12 noon at Rockwall-Heath High School (Heath)
- Electronic Waste Collection and Paper Shredding on Nov. 16 from 9 – 12 noon at 132 W. High Street (Wills Point)
Mesquite Recycles Day is Saturday – November 9
Keep Mesquite Beautiful (KMB) and the City of Mesquite host their semi-annual Recycles Day event on Saturday, November 9th from 8 a.m. – noon at Poteet High School, 3300 Poteet Drive in Mesquite. For more information contact KMB at 972-329-8331 or kmb@cityofmesquite.com.
The following list of items will be accepted:
- E-waste(computers, monitors, television, printers, any electronic device)
- Used cellular phones, cellular phone batteries and accessories, used laser and ink jet printer cartridges, and used rechargeable batteries
- Gently used eye glasses
- Gently used books, magazines, videos, DVDs, CDs, and Books on Tape
- Gently used clothing, handbags, linens, and towels
- Gently used toys and children’s items
- Tires and used appliances
A document destruction truck will also be available on site. Shredding will be done off-site through Greenstar Security Destruction, a NAID (National Association of Information Destruction) certified company.
Commercial office waste and household hazardous waste will NOT be accepted at this event. All household hazardous waste (i.e. paint cans, pesticides, and motor oil) must be taken to the Dallas County Home Chemical Collection Center located at 11234 Plano Road, Dallas, Texas 75243.

PTA Fall Carnival and Silent Auction – Nov. 9th
Join the SISD PTA for an afternoon of traditional fall carnival fun!
When: Saturday, Nov. 9th, 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
Where: The former elementary campus and gym (Sunnyvale School Building and Administrative Offices – 417 E. Tripp Road)
